How it Works
Traditional centralised network
Users would connect to a cell tower - a node - that is operated by a network company. Only through these controlled towers can users access the network.
- Entire system is vulnerable to extreme weather changes. If a tower goes down, everyone in the area is disconnected.
- Users are robbed of their autonomy. Whoever controls the network can access, censor, and surveil your information.
- Large networks favor corporations over community. By pushing individuals towards isolation, every attempt at connection is mediated.
Ariadne's mesh network
Each user acts as the nodes themselves and communicates with the network by connecting to other nodes within a local range. Multiply these connections to every node in the network and you can build chains of communication to everyone in your community. Ariadne's mesh network is akin to a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), but with an extended coverage of a whole community.
- A decentralised network has less points of failure. If one node fails, the rest of the network remains unaffected.
- Open-source code means that users control how they connect to the network and where their information goes.
